“PROMISES” AUCTION RAISES A STAGGERING

8,327 YTL - £3,330!

Over 200 people crowded into the Nil Bar in Calis Beach on Thursday 25 October 2007 for the Calis Carnival Charity “Promises” Auction. The successful night raised a staggering 8,327 ytl  -  £3,330 for the chosen carnival charities – helping deprived and disadvantaged children in the Calis area.

The evening was presented by Calis’s own orange man “David Dickie Dangler Dickinson” who auctioned over 70 “Promises” ranging from holiday accommodation, air flights, a diamond ring, cases of British beer, insurance policies, a 4 day diving course and horse riding lessons to dog walking, baby sitting, ironing and cake making services. All of the “Promises” were generously donated by local businesses and residents as well as supporters in the United Kingdom. 

A number of commission bids had been received via the internet using the Calis Carnival website in the week leading up to the event and on the night there was a bidding frenzy as everyone present tried to outbid each other and snap up a bargain.

Joint Chairman of the Carnival Committee, Peter Clark, said that he was overwhelmed at the generosity and support given to the event and could not thank people enough for their kindness.
