SCHOOLS PAINTING COMPETITION

Local schoolchildren were invited to take part in a competition to paint a picture which can be produced as a poster to advertise the Çaliş Carnival.

Recenly the two judges, schools Arts Adviser İlker Yiğit and local artist Keith Fordham, had the difficult task of judging the 75 brightly coloured entries, all based on the carnival theme “Summer, Sun and the Sea”.

The entries were so good, that in the end, as well as the four age category winners, the judges selected two paintings for the FETAV and Çaliş Carnival Committee Special awards.

All of the winning paintings were displayed at the Fethiye Tourism Week Cocktail Party on Tuesday 15 April where the talented youngsters were invited along to collect their prizes presented by Carnival Secretary Chrissie Clark and Carnival mascot Tommy Turtle. The special awards were presented by FETAV Director Dilek Dinçer and Carnival Chairman Peter Clark.

All of the painters of the first, second and third placed entries as well as the special award winners received certificates and prizes of gold coins and carnival baseball caps. In addition the four category winners also received watches and will have their entries published as posters which will be displayed throughout the region.

All of the submitted entries will be displayed in the exhibition area on Çaliş Seafront on Carnival Day.

Winners:

• Age 7-10: First -Su Vural (Özel Ata İÖO 2/A), Second - Yaren Avcı (Özel Ata İÖO 3/A), Thırd - Jay Yılmaz (Yunus Nadi İÖO 3/A)
• Age 10-12: First – Barış Yaşar (Yunus Nadi İÖO 5/B), Second - Emine Tekeli (Özel Fethiye İÖO 5/B), Third – Dilara Esına (Yunus Nadi İÖO 5/B)
• Age 12-15: First – Ferhan Tekeli (Özel Fethiye İÖO 8/A), Second İlayda Şanlı (Özel Fethiye İÖO 8/A), Third - Başak Atlıhan (Yusuf İzzet Gökçe İÖO 8B)
• Age 15-17: First – Duygu Arıcan (Fethiye Anadolu Lisesi 9/A), Second – Zeynep Acar (Fethiye Anadolu Lisesi 9/A)

Çaliş Carnival Committee Special Award: İrem Talaş (Özel Ata İÖO 6/A)

PHOTOGRAPHY EXHIBITION

Budding amateur photographers were invited to enter the Carnival’s photography competition.

The competition, which was open to old and young alike, comprised of six categories:

Humorous

Portrait/People

Wildlife/Natural History/Animals

Seascape/Landscape

Cultural/History

Black and White/Sepia – any subject

The one major condition of the competition was that all photographs had to be taken in Turkey. Contestants could enter one photograph per category to a maximum size of A4 and the photographs could be mounted or un-mounted.  There were cups for the six winners and certificates for the 2^nd and 3^rd placed entries in each category.

The competition received over 80 entries and all of the photographs were displayed as part of the Carnival Exhibition on Calis Seafront on Carnival Day.
