The Carnival and the associated fund raising activities are being organised by a group of volunteers and everybody is giving their time for free. If you would like to be involved with the 2010 Carnival there are so many different ways that you could help us.

Volunteering

We need people to help throughout the year, both in the planning process and at our various fundraising events as well as Carnival Week and the main event itself – “Carnival Weekend”.

You could help by joining our Committee and getting involved in the full planning process, or you could help as a “foot soldier” at our various events. We also need multi-lingual translators (particularly Turkish/English) to help us with paperwork, posters, our website and to translate at various meetings throughout the year.

On Carnival Weekend we will need lots of help – this could involve marshalling traffic and spectators, stewarding the carnival parade, setting up the exhibition and stage areas, erecting signs, helping on the information stand, making announcements, assisting with registration, moving equipment as well as helping to clear up afterwards. We also need help before the Carnival by distributing posters, collecting materials for float and costume making, painting signs, helping to run costume/mask /face-painting workshops – in fact in any way that you think you can help!

Sponsoring

One way to help is through financial donation or sponsorship of the Carnival event itself. This gives local businesses the opportunity to advertise themselves in various ways whilst helping us to put on a bigger and better event for the community.

We are not only looking for large companies to financially sponsor the major costly elements of the carnival e.g. the concert and the exhibition area, but are also seeking donations and sponsorship from individuals and smaller businesses to enable us to stage the event as a whole. This could be by providing services or sponsoring posters, leaflets, banners, cups, transport, costumes, decorations, flags, food and drink items and so on. Whatever type of business you are, there is a way that you can help. Please feel free to call us for additional sponsorship ideas.

Donations

We are also looking for businesses and individuals to donate food, drink, gift items and services which could be auctioned or used as prizes or for raffles at our fundraising events throughout the year. Some local restaurants are even donating a nominal amount per meal eaten to help boost our charity funds. Every lira donated/sponsored truly makes a difference.

As well as requesting donations to help with our fundraising efforts, we are also appealing for unwanted working computers, laptops, televisions and good condition children’s books (both Turkish and English) so that we can distribute these to local schools and needy students in the area. Finally we want your ideas so that we can make Çalış Carnival 2010 bigger and better than ever! Please contact us with your suggestions

Your help, sponsorship or donation, however big or small, will enable us to put on a community event which will help to promote the Çalış area and integrate the Turkish and foreign communities in the area.

All funds raised from the Carnival event are donated to our charity – helping local disadvantaged children - and it represents an excellent opportunity for individuals and businesses alike to help make a real difference in the community. You will also be joining a growing band of people working together “hand in hand” for the good of the town.
