Çalış Carnival, now in its third year, is a major community project organised by a committee of volunteers working "hand in hand" for the benefit of Çalış.

The primary aims of the Carnival and its fundraising activities are to help integrate the communities of Turkish and foreign citizens in the Çalış area, to promote Çalış as a desirable tourist area and enhance its economic growth, whilst at the same time raising money for the chosen carnival charities.

Over the last two years Çalış Carnival has raised nearly 50,000 TL (£20,000) to help local disadvantaged children.

Çalış Carnival is one of two charities who operate legally under the ‘umbrella’ foundation of FETAV, the other being FIG (Fethiye International group).

The board of the FETAV foundation includes the mayor of Fethiye and the area governor (Kaymakam).

Charities operating under FETAV are required to keep detailed accounts (our bank accounts are audited monthly by the Belediye), hold regular management meetings and comply with the regulations of the foundation.

By doing this our activities are transparent. Çalış Carnival produces and publishes a comprehensive annual report showing all income and expenditure and this is available for public scrutiny on our website, the local press and in FETAV office.

Carnival Weekend 2010 will take place on Saturday and Sunday 29/30 May and this year’s theme is “One World”.

There will be a craft exhibition, workshops, a fancy dress parade with decorated floats as well as entertainment on the promenade on the Saturday and the colourful extravaganza will culminate with a “Party in the Park” concert on the Sunday afternoon.

There will also be a full programme of activities during the week leading up to Carnival Weekend as well as a fun packed calendar of fundraising social events throughout the year.
